Our beautiful two year old son Nick is what? Autistic?
Well, like most families that was just the beginning of a long and crazy journey, and we knew crazy, we had triplets, but this was a different path all together.
As he grew, it became harder and harder to keep him in his crib tent and the jumping up and down was not helping, what were we going to do? I know, I’ll go on-line, there’s got to be some type of bed on the internet for pre-school kids with ASD, right? WRONG!
How about a car bed? It sounded like a good idea, but it turned out to be impossible to teach a non-verbal, ASD child to stay and sleep in a toddler bed. After several nights of screaming, running and climbing all over his room, it was back to the crib tent. Oh yeah, he also figured out the door knob, what was next, the window latches in our two story home? HELP!
We then thought, “Let’s try a kids camping tent, that should work great.” WRONG again. It took all of thirty minutes for our creative little genius to find his way out of the tent. We needed something and we needed it fast!
I started sketching, and after many crude drawings and several prototypes, a final design was developed. I knew a solution was close at hand.
Now, after several years our son, Nick (who the bed tent is named after), still struggles everyday with ASD but thanks to our “Nickel” Bed Tent, at least one part of our life is a little easier knowing he is safe and comfortable in his bed at night.
I’m a stay-at-home mom with triplets. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be the one designing a bed tent that not only would help my son, but the autism and special needs communities. Now, with our homegrown company, Ready, Set, Bloom, LLC., our hope is to help special needs children and their parents/families rest comfortably and peacefully throughout the night using our Nickel Bed Tent.
